It’s Not My Cat February 2023

It’s Not My Cat February 2023

I started to leave my screen door propped open, covertly watching for cats.  Mama came in a few times and looked around, but only when I was clearly not paying attention (or so she thought).  Boo came by to eat with Mama a time or two, but didn’t come in.  Sister was still setting out the live cat traps, and caught a few more, but not wily little Mama.

I had to go out of town for a few days, and had Sister watching my house.  Mama was no where to be found while Sister was around.  She really didn’t want to get trapped!

Sister went out and bought tons of cat food and gave it to me for the fur babies.

Before Crazy Cat Guy (CCG) passed away, he and his two friends were a constant source of irritation to me.  I called them the Three Stooges.  Black Truck Guy was Larry, CCG was Mo, and the short loud black guy was Curly.  Curly was always drunk, shouting about “Everyone needs to stay off the Cat Farm!”  I had my camera pointed at CCG’s house just in case I needed evidence.  Curly would light a fire in the Weber, under the tree, and go back inside.  Every day.  Hollering at me that I was a b**** for not giving him a cigarette, or a beer.  I wrote a lot about them in my Journal.

When Sister left to go home, she locked the house and blocked the cat doors.  I didn’t see Mama for a few days after that, but I kept calling, just in case.  I was leaving food out for all the cats, and was trying to recognize and remember which cats I was feeding.  It was so cold, the water kept freezing, so I put out empty butter containers with water on my porch.  Even the squirrels came to visit!  One day, it was just too cold to visit me, and I was very worried.

The food was there for over a day!

Then Mama came back!

I wanted to leave the door open, but it was too cold. *sigh So she left.

I tried again after an hour, and I GOT MAMA!  I closed the door and trapped her inside!  I kept talking to her, singing to her.  She went and hid under my bed, but she was safe and warm!

She was NOT amused!  But then… she found the cat toys I had bought for her, and was actually playing with them!  She stayed the night, but was wailing like a banshee at 4:45 the next morning, so I let her out.  She didn’t really want to go out as it was 6 degrees Fahrenheit, but she didn’t really know me, so she left.

I started telling people at work.  “Are you ready to hear the next episode of ‘It’s Not My Cat’?” Gotta have fun with this, you know?

Stay tuned for more.
